CARLES PUYOL has been ruled out for eight weeks after dislocating his elbow against Benfica.
The Barcelona captain, 34, will miss Sunday’s El Clasico against bitter rivals Real Madrid.
He sustained the horror injury in the 74th minute of the Champions League clash in Portugal.
Initial fears were that he had badly broken his arm but tests showed it was a dislocation.
Barca boss Tito Vilanova said: “I have always said it, we have always had problems in central defence but we will get through it.
“It’s not just a question of what Barca loses for the Clasico on Sunday but also what it loses in terms of all the other matches.”
After receiving treatment, Puyol tweeted to reveal he was on the mend.
He said: “We are back in Barcelona. I want to thank everyone who looked after me in Portugal.
“I’ll soon be back to my best again! Thank you for all your messages – a big hug to all of you”.
